The VolumeMetrics™ Series of measurement systems is designed for precision liquid level monitoring in tank applications. The VolumeMetrics™ Series operates on the same "time of flight" principal as the LevelMetrics Series, but the sensor is submerged in the liquid to be measured, and is attached to a vertical tube used for damping the motion of the liquid as the tank is filled or emptied. An ultrasonic pulse travels up through the liquid and reflects off the liquid/air interface. The advantage of submerging the sensor in the liquid is that much lower power levels are used to drive the sensor because sound propagates much more freely through liquids than through air. This results in a very strong signal permitting high precision, and reduced hazard when using the sensors in flammable liquids.
For the LevelMetrics™ Series and the VolumeMetrics™ Series, you must select both a sensor and a controller. Select the controller with sufficient precision for your application, and then determine the type of input power, output options, and enclosure that you require. Select the sensor that meets your range requirements and is compatible with the selected controller. Then choose the sensor housing material and the cable length needed to connect the sensor to the controller (see "Purchase a system").
