The LevelMetrics™ Series of measurement systems is designed for non-contact distance measurement and object detection applications operating in air or other non-flammable gas environments. They use the "time of flight" method to measure the distance between the sensor and the target. This is done by generating a pulse of acoustic energy that travels out from the sensor face and reflects off the target. When the energy returns to the sensor, the time that it took to travel out and back is measured, and the range to the target is determined based on the known velocity of sound. To operate reliably, the sensor should be placed so that the expected position of the target always falls within the minimum and maximum operating range of the sensor.
The ideal target is hard, smooth, and perpendicular to the sensor axis. Clearly, not all applications will meet all of these conditions, and the LevelMetrics Series goes a long way towards minimizing the effects of non-ideal targets, but the user should keep in mind that as conditions vary from the ideal, sensor range and measurement accuracy may be compromised.
Non-Contact systems optimized for target ranges from 1.25 in. to 240 in.
